Canis Major Constellation Necklace

Dog lovers, this one is for you! This delightful constellation follows Orion through the night sky as one of his faithful hounds. At the head of our animal friend is Sirius, the dog star and the brightest star in the sky. The heliacal rising of Sirius marked the flooding of the Nile in Ancient Egypt, and the Polynesians used this brilliant star for sea navigation. Whether as a symbol of the joy of stargazing or in remembrance of a favorite furry companion, this constellation is a very good dog.

The pendant is small-batch cast from pewter and has been hand hammered and weathered for an antique look. The stars are accurately placed, based on star maps, and are cut all the way through the pendant. The back features the right ascension and declination, reversed to match the stars. As far as we know, this is the only constellation pendant in the world designed to this level of astronomical accuracy. The pendant measures 3cm in diameter and comes on an adjustable brown leather cord.
