  • The earliest abacus dates to 2700 BC when it was used in Mesopotamia to calculate the Sumarian sexagesimal number system. Over the millennia, it was used in various forms by the Egyptians, Persians, Greeks, Chinese, Romans, and many other civilizations. It is still used today as a teaching aid in many preschools and elementary schools. This abacus pendant (with moving steel beads!) represents both a love of mathematics and an important piece of math history. It will delight math teachers and students alike! The steel abacus measures 1 1/4 inches long and 3/4 inches wide, and has working steel beads. It comes with a 23 inch steel ball chain.
  • Perfect for:

    • Mathematicians or math aficionados
    • Math students
    • Math teachers
    • Abacists everywhere

For all countries besides the US and Canada, we offer USPS First Class shipping for $4 per order without gift boxes and $10 per order with gift boxes. Note that depending on the country, First Class International shipping can take a long time to arrive. To date, we have only had one international shipment go missing. However, we have found that packages to Russia tend to take around a month to arrive, and packages to Australia have taken 8 - 10 weeks.

Also note that tracking numbers will work only until the package leaves the United States. We will replace packages that go missing before exiting the US border, but cannot replace packages that disappear after that.

If you need tracking all the way to your country, please contact us about shipping by UPS. Also email us if you would like to purchase insurance for your order.

    Tracking Numbers

Tracking numbers are sent in an email through Stamps.com, but are not visible in your account at boutiqueacademia.com. Watch for an email with the title "Boutique Academia has sent you a package" or something similar. Check your spam folder if you don't see the email after two business days, or email us at maile@boutiqueacademia.com for assistance.

For international orders, note that tracking numbers will work only until the package leaves the United States. We will replace packages that go missing before exiting the US border, but cannot replace packages that disappear after that. All the same, please email us at maile@boutiqueacademia.com if you think your package has disappeared, and we will see what we can do.

    How Are Products Packaged?

For orders in the United States, your jewelry will come packaged in a lovely natural brown box, stamped with an image of a woman flying on wings of equations. Yes...all of the equations are real. They are drawn from a wide variety of STEM disciplines. With the gift box, your order will be completely ready for you to either give as a gift or (better yet) enjoy yourself. A photo of the gift box and a closeup of a wing:

For international orders, in order to reduce your shipping costs, we are now giving you the choice of gift box packaging or no gift box. If you choose no gift box, your jewelry will be packaged simply in a small bag. Because of recent shipping increases at USPS, sending your order this way will save you about $5 per piece and we wanted to give customers a choice. You might be better off choosing the option for shipping without a gift box and then buying some kind of gift packaging in your country. However, if you would like your order sent in a wire-wrapped box, select the "USPS First Class International with gift box" shipping option.
