Climate Change Earrings

"I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is."
- Greta Thunberg, 2019 World Economic Forum

An image is worth a thousand words. Communicating the extent and urgency of climate change is one of the biggest challenges, ahead of us. These unique and eye-catching earrings can help start conversations and prompt introspection.

This unusual design uses an image showing the average temperatures across the globe from 1850-2018. Blue is colder, red is hotter. (Data: Berkeley Earth, NOAA, UK Met Office, MeteoSwiss, DWD. #ShowYourStripes More info here.) The earrings are created using an innovative process using aluminum and high-color images. The ear hooks are sterling silver and the earring elements are made from hand-worked aluminum.

For each pair of earrings purchased, $5 will be donated to The Coalition for Rainforest Nations, a nonprofit that helps prevent deforestation and works with local rainforest communities to build a sustainable balance between humans and the environment. Estimates suggest that a donation of only 12 cents to this organization can avert a metric ton of CO2. That means the $5 from the purchase of these earrings could avert an estimated 41 metric tons of greenhouse gas. (To put that in perspective, the average American is responsible for 16 metric tons of emissions per year.)

Perfect for:

  • Anyone worried about climate change... (which really ought to be everyone)
