These earrings are more than just inspired by electronics! They are functional circuits, designed by us to authentically represent the foundational concept in computing: memory.
Each circuit boards works as a true Set–Reset (SR) latch. If you solder the leads, place it on a breadboard, and connect it to power and an LED, the circuit will behave exactly as an SR latch should: storing a single bit of information, holding its state, and changing only when explicitly instructed.
At its core, an SR latch is built from logic gates -- typically cross-coupled NAND or NOR gates -- the same fundamental components that perform AND, OR, and NOT operations in digital systems. Logic gates are the alphabet of computation, and the SR latch is one of the first “sentences” they can form: a structure where outputs feed back into inputs, allowing the circuit to remember its own past. This simple act of feedback is what transforms pure logic into memory.
The SR latch is one of the most fundamental memory elements in computing. From this idea grow flip-flops, registers, and RAM... and ultimately the variables, conditionals, and state machines used in programming. Every if statement, every stored value, and every running program relies on the same principles embodied in this tiny circuit.
Worn as jewelry, the SR latch becomes a quiet celebration of intentional design, foundational knowledge, and the power of a single stored bit. Choose your favorite color from green, blue, purple, and black circuit boards. The earrings measure 4.5cm or 1.75in from the top of the stainless steel hook to the bottom of the Swarovski crystal pearl. Breadboard not included. ;-)
