Nancy Grace Roman Telescope Necklace

The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is an infrared telescope launched by NASA and named after the groundbreaking astronomer Nancy Grace Roman.

As NASA's first chief of astronomy, Nancy Grace Roman was the visionary leader who built NASA's astronomy program. Known as the "Mother of Hubble", she strongly advocated for a space-based telescope and was the driving force behind the Hubble Telescope. She published nearly one hundred scientific articles during her career, fought through the gender bias of her era, and remained an advocate for women in science until her death.

The telescope bearing Nancy Grace Roman's name is an absolute marvel of human ingenuity. It has a 2.4 meter primary mirror and carries two instruments. Its Wide-Field Instrument (WFI) captures images 100 times larger than the Hubble Telescope in both infrared and visible light. Additionally, its Coronograph Instrument (CGI) uses innovative starlight-suppression technology for exoplanet detection and spectroscopy. Using these tools, the telescope will search for life in the universe, directly image exoplanets, investigate dark energy, and learn more about ancient black holes.

Designed in collaboration with Startorialist, our Nancy Grace Roman Telescope Necklace is based on the shape of the Wide-Field Instrument's detector grid. The little gold squares have been polished to a shine on each gold-plated steel pendant. On the back is engraved a star chart of the center of our Milky Way Galaxy, with a tiny undarkened circle representing the massive black hole around which the entire galaxy revolves. The pendant measures approximately 1" x 3/4" and comes on a sturdy 18-20" adjustable gold-plated chain.

Elegant as the night sky, this necklace adds subtle space science beauty to any occasion. It also serves as a reminder of both the expanding boundaries of human knowledge and the enormous impact women have had on the field of astronomy. Thank you for your brilliance and hard work, Dr. Roman!!
